Finance & Business: F&B Key Initiatives

F&B Key Initiatives

Key initiatives are organization-wide goals and have been powerful in enabling F&B to successfully target important practices across all units. Many of our successes have been the result of these cross-unit objectives, and we expect that the initiatives identified in this plan will be no different.

If you are interested in learning more about the F&B key initiatives or would consider becoming a member, please discuss with your supervisor, and then contact the key initiative manager for consideration.

The key initiatives for 2008-2013 areas follows:

  • Creating a Safer and More Secure University
This is a new key initiative. The charge to this group is to identify and implement proactive, forward-looking strategies designed to create a safer and more secure environment for all members of the University community. Emergency prevention planning and recovery are important elements of this initiative.

  • Enterprise Risk Management
Enterprise Risk Management continues as a key initiative. The charge to the team will expand to become more University-wide to provide leadership on the important issue of focusing on potential risks and to assist in preparing for them.

  • Environmental Stewardship
Environmental Stewardship continues as a key initiative. The focus of the initiative will broaden in order to help bring academic, research, student, and administrative initiatives and thinking together to reduce waste and more effectively use resources.

  • Focus on People
Focus on People continues as a key initiative. This team will continue to explore areas related to recruiting and retaining a dedicated and diverse workforce. Specific strategies include developing and enhancing initiatives in multiple areas: wellness, rewards and recognition, succession planning, training and development, and workplace environment.

  • Fostering Diversity
Fostering Diversity continues as a key initiative. The focus will shift to more direct action of enhancing the diversity of F&B, along with activities and programs designed to increase the diversity of our staff, particularly at leadership levels.

  • Information Technology
Information Technology is the next evolutionary phase of the e-Business Key Initiative. The charge for this team will expand to look at F&B-wide processes and support to ensure that we have efficient, stable, and highly-functioning systems. The team will also continue to encourage the innovation that the e-Business team fostered successfully over the past several years.

  • Providing Great Service
Beginning with the present strategic plan, this key initiative’s goals focus on ensuring that F&B continues to provide exceptional service in the most efficient way possible. Especially challenging—each year, resources become more constrained while customer expectations and demands grow. Cross-unit teams will lead the effort toward achieving the goals of each key initiative. We will look for broad participation from F&B staff, in addition to their regular job duties, and supplement teams with experts outside of F&B as appropriate.
