HAZARDOUS MATERIALS SAFETY AND DISPOSAL TEAM WINS AWARD FOR QUALITY SERVICE

Hazardous Materials Safety and Disposal Team members Les Gordon, Kevin Myers and Nate Black were chosen as recipients of Finance and Business’s 2002 “Quality Service, Quality People” award. It recognizes individuals who exhibit exemplary work performance, focus on providing outstanding service to clients, value ethics and integrity in the workplace, and are leaders on the job. The team members were recognized at a January 22 award ceremony. (Peggy Achey, the other 2002 award winner, was recognized this past December).

“Each month Team members Les Gordan, Kevin Myers, and Nate Black help to successfully manage thousands of chemicals located in labs and buildings all over campus,” commented Senior Vice President for Finance and Business/Treasurer Gary Schultz, “Their efforts go a long way to ensuring that the University community enjoys a safe and healthy work environment.”

Earth and Mineral Sciences Safety Officer Teresa Carmody also offered praise for the Team, saying, “Always and without exception, this team has conveyed that they are here to serve, aid, and facilitate our college’s safety effort. Their presence has been a key to the success in the important task of fostering safe behaviors and attitudes. The team’s assistance, guidance, and service have been instrumental to the strides our College has made in improving our safety program.”

In addition to the formal award ceremony, award recipients are listed on a “Quality Service, Quality People” plaque that is displayed in Old Main and they receive $200. Funds for the award were established through voluntary contributions from Finance and Business employees as part of A Grand Destiny: The Penn State Campaign.
