HERSHEY EMPLOYEE RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE:

Peggy Achey, Administrative Assistant to the Associate Vice President for Finance and Business/Controller at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, was selected to receive a Finance and Business “Quality Service, Quality People” award for 2002.  An award ceremony in her honor was held on December 6, 2002 at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. (Also winning an award were University Park’s Environmental Health and Safety Hazardous Waste Team members Lester Gordon, Kevin Myers and Nathan Black; they will be recognized in January.)

“The “Quality Service, Quality People” award promotes outstanding employee service to students and the University community,” explained Associate Vice President for Human Resources Billie Willits. “The award salutes employees who provide a high level of customer service, exhibit integrity and ethics in the work environment, demonstrate on-the-job leadership, and contribute to or develop a process improvement resulting in savings or cost avoidance.  In short, the “Quality Service, Quality People” award recognizes exemplary work performance and achievement.”

Associate Vice President for Finance and Business and Controller at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Wayne Zolko describes Ms. Achey as an excellent example of “Quality Service, Quality People,” saying, “Peggy always has a positive, “can-do” attitude.  She is constantly seeking to improve her skills and to expand her role into new arenas where she can help.  She has complete mastery over all of her job responsibilities, is dedicated to maintaining the reputation of Penn State, and always is willing to help others.”

“I congratulate this year’s recipients for their stellar service to Penn State,” commented Senior Vice President for Finance and Business/Treasurer Gary Schultz.  In addition to participation in a formal recognition ceremony, Ms. Achey and the Environmental Health and Safety Hazardous Waste Team each will receive a $200 stipend.  Also, a plaque listing all the recipients of the “Quality Service, Quality People” award will be located in 208 Old Main.  Funds for the “Quality Service, Quality People” award were established through voluntary contributions from Finance and Business employees.
