Diversity Climate Survey Results
As part of its Diversity Key Initiative, Finance and Business is continually developing new ways to improve the diversity climate in its units and maintain progress in each of its offices. A major step in that improvement is the 2007 Diversity Climate Survey.
Diversity climate surveys have been conducted about every three years since 1995. The first sign of progress from this year’s results was the survey’s impressive response rate of nearly 1,000 employees. Other improvements include a more comfortable working environment and a decrease in reported acts of intolerance.
Consistent improvements over the past decade show that a majority of employees are more comfortable with the diversity climate in their workplace. However, almost half of those surveyed agreed that the climate is most challenging for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees.
Vice President of Finance and Business Al Horvath said, “Diversity is a broad concept that affects everyone. A climate that supports our uniqueness, yet encourages effective teamwork, is important to our individual and collective success.”
Some improvements the survey found are signs of hope and inspiration for future objectives. There is a lot to learn and a lot to gain by identifying the positives and negatives within each unit.
